The construction industry and anything related to its can be a challenging topic to understand. But for some people that would like to grab the opportunity in being informed and aware of what process does his residential, commercial or industrial buildings have to go through, this is an interesting one.
In this particular article, we are going to discuss what rebars are, the different type construction people are using, and what the specific uses of each type are.
Rebars or Reinforcing Steel Bars
Rebars can also be identified as reinforcement steel or reinforcing steel. It can either be a mesh of steel wires or steel bars that are utilized for masonry structures or reinforcing concrete so that concrete is strengthened and held in place despite the tension. Concrete is naturally strong but the interference of tension, it can crack it thus weakening the structure.
Types of Reinforcing Steel Bars
- Carbon Steel Rebars
Also known as the “black bar” and is widely used in various construction feats. Although it corrodes faster than other rebar types, it is utilized for its versatility thus making it a common choice for contractors.
Since its rate of corrosion is noticeably faster in comparison to other reinforcing steel bar classifications, this specific type is not recommended in areas of high humidity or construction projects that frequently exposed to water.
- Welded wire fabric (WWF)
This rebar type is made from steel wires that are arranged at a 90-degree angles and are welded in its crossings. This is ideal to use on slab-on-grounds where the floor is compacted. A heavier fabricated WWF can also be utilized on structural floor slabs or walls. Most of the time WWF can be found in drainage structures and systems, small-scale concrete canals, road pavements and box culverts.
- Epoxy-coated rebars
Intending to build a beach house as a resting place for vacations and small trips? If so, you might encounter these rebars upon the construction of your rest house. Epoxy-coated rebars are notorious for being known as an expensive investment. The coating on these are very delicate and is usually the solution for infrastructures that are exposed to saltwater and corrosion issue.
- Sheet-metal reinforcing bars
This type is commonly used in construction areas relating to stairs, floor slabs, and roofing. It consists of annealed steel sheet pieces that are bent by corrugating it.
There are still a lot of reinforcing steel bars available in the market and the ones listed above are just the common few. If you have any questions as to what reinforcing steel bars work best for your steel works, give us a call and we’ll be glad to be of any help to you.
